More the positive charge on the C atom of (CHO) group, nucleophile `overset(o+)(OH)` will attack faster and C.R. will take place. But due to the reasonance effect by the ED power of OH group, positive charge on the C atom of CHO group is neturalised and hence C.R. does not take place.
