The critical angle of a certain medium i...

The critical angle of a certain medium is `sin ^(-1)((3)/(5))`. The polarizing angle of the medium is :

A

`sin^(-1)((4)/(5))`

B

`tan^(-1)((5)/(3))`

C

`tan^(-1)((3)/(4))`

D

`tan^(-1)((4)/(3))`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

Here, Critical angle, `i_(e) =sin^(-1) ((3)/(5))`
`therefore sin i_(c)= (3)/(5)`
As `mu=(1)/(sin i_(c)) =(5)/(3)`
According to Brewster's law
`tan i_(p)=mu`
where `i_(p) ` is the polarising angle
`therefore tan i_(p) =(5)/(3) rArr i_(p) =tan^(-1) ((5)/(3))`
