What is the significance of optical path?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Optical path is the distance travelled by light ray in vacuum in the same time it takes to traverse a certain distance (x) in a medium of refractive index `mu`. Its value is given by `mux` .
Further the change in phase for two rays of same frequency will remain same if they cover equal optical path lenghts.
