On a large scale, ammonia is prepared by Haber's process by direct combination of `N_(2)` and `H_(2)` .
`N_(2)(g)+3H_(2)(g)hArr2NH_(3)(g),Delta_(r)H=-92,4 kJ`
This is a reversible gaseous reaction which proceeds with decrease in volume. Hence, according to Le Chatelier's principle, to maximise the yield of NH3 , high pressure and low temperature are required. But `N_(2)` is um eactive at very low temperature. Thus the optimum conditions required to maximise the yield of ammonia are:
