An observer standing at the sea coast observes `54 waves` reaching the coast per minute. If the wavelength of a wave is `10 m`, find the wave velocity.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

As 54 waves reach the shore per minute,
`f = (54)/(60) = (9)/(10)Hz`
And as wavelength ofwaves is 10 m
`v = flambda = (9)/(10) xx 10` = 9m/s
The waves on the surface of water are combined transverseand longitudinal called ripples''. In case ofsurface waves theparticles of the medium move in elliptical paths in a verticalplane so that the vibrations are simultaneously back and forthand up and down
