A ball is thrown at different angles with the same speed `u` and from the same points and it has same range in both the cases. If `y_1 and y_2` be the heights attained in the two cases, then find the value of `y_1 + y_2`.

A

`u^2/g`

B

`(2u^2)/g`

C

`u^2/(2g)`

D

`u^2/(4g)`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
C

The ball will have same horizontal range if the angle of projection are `theta and (90^@ - theta)`
`:.h_1=(u^2sin^2theta)/(2g) and h_2=(u^2sin^2 (90^@ theta))/(2g) = (u^2 cos^2 theta)/(2g)`
`:. h_(1)+h_(2) =(u^2)/(2g) (sin^(2) theta + cos ^(2) theta ) = u^2 /(2g)`
