Why is excess use of fertilisers detrimental for environment?

Fertilisers should be applied scientifically in terms of proper dose time pre and post application precaution of their complete utilisation. Excess fertilisers usually get washed away through irrigation rainfall etc. and pollute rivers lakes streams causing algal bloom toxicity and eutrophiciation.
