Work : The product of magnitude of force and displacement during which the force acts is called work.
` :.` Work = Force `xx` Displacement
If the force and the disaplacement are in the same direction , the work done is positive and if they are in opposite direction , the work done is negative and if force is perpendicular the displacement , the work done is zero .
Kinetic Energy : Energy is the capacity of doing work .
The energy possessed by a body by virtue of its motion is konw as kinetic energy .
Hence, if a body moving with more speed would have more kinetic energy compared to the kinetic energy of the same body moving with comparatively lesser speed .
Another definition of kinetic energy : Half of the product of the mass of a body and the square of its velocity is defined as kinetic energy of the body .
` :. ` Kinetic energy ` = 1/2 mv^(2)`
where m = mass of body and v = velocity ( or speed ) of the body .
