Right-shift of oxygen-haemoglobin dissociation curve can occur due to

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The oxyhaemoglobin dissociation curve is a graph showing the percentage of oxyhaemoglobin at various partial pressures of oxygen. Reasons for Sigmoidal pattern :
In alveoli, where there is a high `pO_2`, low `pCO_2` lesser `H^+` and low temperature, the factors are all favourable forformation of oxyhaemoglobin. In the tissues where low `pO_2`, high `pCO_2`, high `H^+` concentration and higher temperature exist, the conditions are favourable for dissociation of oxygen from oxyhaemoglobin under these conditions. Oxygen dissociation curve shift away from the Y-axis and form sigmoid curve.
