Mitochondria are abundant in neurons. Give reason.

The main function of neurons is transmission of nerve impulses which is called neurotransmission. The process of neurotransmission takes place at the expense of large amount of energy. This energy is in the form of ATP and is used as fuel for most of the biochemical reactions in neurons.
This energy is produced by mitochondria on the oxidation of glucose. As brain (bundle of neurons) needs more amount of energy for undergoing neuronal activity, large number of mitochondria are present in neurons.
