What is the hybridisation of carbon atom is diamond and graphite? 0.1 mole of Buckminster fullerene contains how many kg of carbon ? [Atomic mass of carbon =12]

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The hybridization of carbon atom in diamond is `sp^(3)` while in graphite it is `sp^(2)`.
1 molecule of Buckminster fullerene `=C_(60)`
mass 1 molecule of Buckminster fullerene
`=12xx60=720 g=720xx10^(-3) kg`.
1 mole of `C_(60)=720xx10^(-3) kg`.
0.1 mole of `C_(60)=x kg`
`x=(720xx10^(-3))/0.1 =7200xx10^(-3) implies 7.2 kg`
0.1 mole contains 7.2 kg of carbon.
