A horizontal solenoid is connected to a cell and a switch, Fig. A Copper ring with its axis along the axis of the solenoid is placed on a frictionless track. What happen to the ring, as the switch is closed ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When switch is closed current in the solenoid grows from zero to maximum. The induced current in the copper ring oppose the growth of current and hence it moves away from the coil.
