Find the value of `k` for which the following system of linear equations has infinite solutions: `x+(k+1)y=5,\ \ \ \ (k+1)x+9y=8k-1`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

let
`ax+by=c`
and
`sx+ty=u ` are two general linear eqns. Then they have infinite solution if `a/s`=`b/t`=`c/u`
now comparing the given linear eqn with general one and using the formula we get eqn
`1/(k+1)`=`(K+1)/9`=`5/(8K-1)`
now solving the above eqn we get K= 2
