The ionic compounds are soluble in polar solvents but isoluble in non-polar solvents-why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In case of polar solvents, the solvation energy of ionic compounds is greater than lattice enthalpy. So, ionic compounds are soluble in polar solvents, but they are insoluble in non-polar solvents because solvation by non-polar solvents is not possible for ionic compounds.
