What are the criteria for selecting a good reducing agent to extract metals?

A good reducing agent for extraction of metals must fulfill the following criteria - 1. It should be cheaper than the metal being extracted. 2. It should not react or combine with the metal being extracted. 3. It must reduce the metal compounds to pure free metal at an appropriate temperature.
