Glucose or sucrose are soluble in water ...

Glucose or sucrose are soluble in water but cyclohexane or benzene are insoluble in water. Explain

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Molecules of glucose and surcose contain several `-OH` groups and hence, are capable of forming extensive H-bonds with water molecules. On the other hand, cyclohexane and benzene are hydrocarbonds and hence, their molecules can not form H-bonds with `H_(2)O` molecules. Thus, glucose and sucrose are soluble in water, while cyclohexane and benzene are not
