Define and explain the enthalpy of atomi...

Define and explain the enthalpy of atomisation`(Delta_(a)H^(theta)).`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

It is the enthalpy change on breaking one mole of bonds completely to obtain neutral atoms in the gas phase.
In case of diatomic molecules, like `H_(2),HCI ` etc., the enthalpy of atomisation is also the bond dissociation enthalpy. In the case of metals enthalpy of atomisation is the enthalpy of sublimation.
