What happen when
`CO_2` is passed through slaked lime

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When `CO_2` is passed through slaked lime turns to milky due to the formation of insoluble `CaCO_3`.
`Ca(OH)_2+CO_2 to CaCO_3+H_2O+CO_2`
If excess `CO_2` is passed, the milkyness disappears due to the conversion of in soluble `CaCO_3` to soluble `Ca(HCO_3)_2`.
`CaCO_3+H_2O+CO_2 to Ca(HCO_3)_2`.
