In tissue culture experiments, rapid cell division in explant (tissue growing on culture medium ) is induced using cytokinin. Thus a mass of undifferentiated tissue is produced called callus. Calus formation shows growth and development without differentiation. Callus produces roots and shoots only when differentiation is induced using different combinations of auxin and cytokinin in culture medium nad therefore, it gives rise to new plants through plamtler formation.
