The pH of a solution is increased from 3 to 6. Its H'ion concentration will be

A

Reduced to half

B

Doubled

C

Reduced by 1000 times

D

Increased by 1000 times

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

`pH alpha 1/[H^(+)]`
For every 10 times dilution, pH increases by 1 unit. Since, pH value increased by 3 units, the `H^(+)` concentration will be decreased by 1000 times. (or) Change in `[H^(+)] = 10 Delta n`, where `Delta n` = change in `pH = 10^(6-3) = 10^(3) = 1000`
Since, pH is increased, the H' will be decreased by 1000 times.
