What is the basis of spectrochemical series?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Ligand field strength is decided by the extent to which the ligand field is effective in causing the splitting of d - orbitals of the central metal atom or ion. Spectrochemical series is a list of ligands arranged in the order of the ligand field strength. The ligands on the left end of the series are regarded as weaker ligands and those on the right end are stronger ligands.
