What is the volume of a sample of oxygen...

What is the volume of a sample of oxygen at a pressure of `3.5"bar"` if its volume at `1`bar is `3.15 L` at th same temperature?

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
`0.90 L`

`P_(1) = 1 "bar" , P_(2) = 3.5 "bar"`
`V_(1) = 3.15 L , V_(2) = ?`
Since temperature is constant, Boyles' Law is applicable.
`P_(1)V_(1)` or `V_(2) = (P_(1)V_(1))/(P_(2)) = ((1 "bar") xx (3.15 L))/((3.5 "bar")) = 0.9 L`
