In terms of period and group, where would you locate the element with Z = 114?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The electronic configuration of the element with Z = 114 is
`1s^(2) 2s^(2)2p^(6) 3s^(2)3p^(6)3d^(10)`
`4s^(2)4p^(6)4d^(10)4f^(14) 5s^(2)5p^(6)5d^(10)5f^(14)`
`6s^(2)6p^(6)6d^(18) 7s^(2)7p^(2)`
Since in the atom of the element with Z = 114 electrons are filled in 7 orbits it should belong to `7^(th)` period. it has 4 electrons in the outermost orbit, so it should belong to IV A group.
