CHEMISTRY
Mg^(+2) is smaller than O^(-2) in size, ...

`Mg^(+2)` is smaller than `O^(-2)` in size, though both have same electronic configuration - explain.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`Mg^(2+) and O^(-2)` are isoelectronic but `Mg^(2+)` has more number of protons (12) than `O^(-2)(8). Due to more attractive power of nucleus of `Mg^(2+)` it is smaller than `O^(2-)`.
