Glucose or sucrose are soluble in water ...

Glucose or sucrose are soluble in water but cyclohexane or benzene (simple six membered ring compounds) are insoluble in water. Explain.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Glucose contain 5 - OH groups and sucrose contain eight - OH groups, because of this they form intermolecular hydrogen bonding, so they are soluble in water. But benzene and cyclohexane doesn.t contain - OH groups hence doesn.t from intermolecular hydrogen bonding, so they are not soluble in water.
