(b) What is the difference between pulmonary ventilation and alveolar ventilation?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Pulmonary ventilation is the volume of air entering into the lungs in unit time whereas alveolar ventilation is the volume of air entering into the alveoli at the same time.
The total volume of air of pulmonary ventilation does not enter the alveoli. So alveolar ventilation is lower than pulmonary ventilation in a given time.
