Why a candle flame burnns yellow, While a highly oxygenated gas - fuel flame burns blue?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The most important factor determining colour of the flame is oxygen supply and the extent of fuel oxygen pre-mixing, which determines the rate of the combustion and thus the tempreture and reaction paths, there by producing different colours. In case of candle , it is an incomplete combustion and the yelloe flame, while a highly oxygenated gas flame burns blue of complete combustion raising a very high temperature.
