Which of 0.1 M HCl and 0.1 M KCl do you ...

Which of 0.1 M HCl and 0.1 M KCl do you expect to have greater molar conductance and why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Compare to 0.1 M HCl and 0.1 M KCl, 0.1 M HCl has greater molar conductance.
Molar conductance of `"0.1 M HCl"=39.132xx10^(-3)"Sm"^(2)"mol"^(-1)`.
Molar conductance of `"0.1 M KCl"=12.896xx10^(-3)"Sm"^(2)"mol"^(-1)`.
Because, `H^(+)` ion in aqueous being smaller size than `K^(+)` ion and `H^(+)` ion have greater mobility than `K^(+)` ion. when mobility of the ion increases, conductivity of that ions also increases. Hence, `"0.1 M HCl"` solution has greater molar conductance than `"0.1 M KCl"` solution.
