Lithium and hydrogen atom are in their s...

Lithium and hydrogen atom are in their second excited state. Which of the following statement/s is/are correct ?

A

Value of electronic angular momentum of hydrogen atom is greater than that of lithium.

B

Both hydrogen and lithium have same value of electronic angular momentum.

C

Both hydrogen atom and lithium have same energy

D

Excitation energy of hydrogen atom is less than that of lithium.

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B, D

The electronic angular momentum can be calculated by
`mvr=(nh)/(2pi)`
Thus both hydrogen and lithium have same value of electronic angular momentum .
For energy of hydrogen atom and lithium in second excited state, `E prop (-Z^2/n^2)`
Since Z for lithium is > Z for hydrogen , excitation energy of lithium will be greater than that of hydrogen.
