Aqueous solution of electrolyte is a bet...

Aqueous solution of electrolyte is a better conductor than fused electrolyte. Give reason.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Due to the high dielectric constant of water, the dissociations of electrolyte into ions is greater in aqueous solution than in fused electrolyte. As a result, the concentration of free ions in aqueous solution is greater than in fused state. Therefore, conductivity of aqueous solution of electrolyte is greater than that of fused electrolyte.
