Define standard electrode potential. If standard oxidation potential of an electrode is 0.80 V, what will be its standard reduction potential ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Standard electrode potential is the electrode potential of a metal in contact with its ions when the concentration of ions is 1 molar. It may be standard reduction potential or standard oxidation potential. The two have the same magnitude but opposite sign. The standard reduction potential is - 0.80 V.
