Statement-I : No two electrons in an atom can have the same values of four quantum number.
Because
Statement-II : No two electrons in an atom can be simultaneously in the same shell, same subshell, same orbitals and have same spin.

A

If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion

B

If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion

C

If assertion is true but reason is false

D

If the assertion and reason both are false

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

We know from the Pauli exclusion principle, that two electrons in the same atom can not have same value of all four quantum numbers. This means each electron in an atom has only one set of values of n,l,m and s. Therefore both the Assertion and Reason are false.
