Assertion : Ice is less dense than liquid water.
Reason: There are vacant spaces between hydrogen bonded water molecules in ice.

A

If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion

B

if both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion

C

if assertion is true but reason is false

D

if the assertion and reason both are false

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

It is correct that during formation of Ice from water there are vacant spaces between hydrogen bonded molecules of of ice. Ice has a cage like structure. Due to this reason Ice is less dense than liquid water. Hence both assertion and reason are true & reason are the correct explanation of assertion.
