Define two specific heats of gas. Write the relation between them.

Text Solution

For gases, specific heat capacity is known as molar specific heat capacity.
At constant volume, the quantity of heat necessary to increase the temperature of one mole of a gas from `14.5^@ C` to `15.5^@ C` is called molar specific heat capacity `C_V` at constant volume.
At constant pressure, the quantity heat necessary to increase the temperature of one mole of a gas from `14.5^@C` to `15.5^@ C` is called molar specific heat capacity `C_P` at constant pressure.
The relation between these two molar specific heat capacity is `C_P-C_V=R`.
