C(1)-C(2) Bond length in propene is 1.4...

`C_(1)-C_(2)` Bond length in propene is `1.46A^(@) and C_(2) -C_(3)` bond length is `1.36A^(@)` . Explain.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In propene , there is single bond between `C_(1)and C_(2)` The bond length should be `1.54A^(@) and C_(2)-C_(3)` double bond length should be `1.34A^(@)` Due to hyperconjugation `C_(1) -C_(2)` bond possesses partial double bond character and `C_(2)-C_3` bond possesses partial single bond character.
