Why does a compass needle get deflected ...

Why does a compass needle get deflected when brought near a bar magnet ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

A compass needle is a small bar magnet with one north pole and the other south pole . When a compass is brought near a bar magnet , compass needle gets deflected due to the forces acting on its pole due to the magnetic field of the bar magnet .
Note : When compass needle is brought near a bar magnet it is acted upon by the force due to the magnetic field or the earth as well as that due to the bar magnet. Therefore , it gets deflected and finally comes to rest in the direction of the net force .

Its reactivity is similar to halogens
    C
It resembles both alkali metals and halogens
    D
Loss of an electron from hydrogen atom results in a nucleus of very small size as compared to other atoms or ions. Due to small size it cannot exist free.
