Although both `CO_2` and `H_2O` are triatomic molecules.,the shape of `H_2O` molecular is bent while that of `CO_2` is linear. Explain these on the basis of dipole moment.

Experimental measurement has shown that the dipole moment of `CO_2` is zero. This is possible only if `CO_2` is linear molecule. The two bond dipoles cancel each other giving it a net dipole moment value of zero.
