Will the r.m.s. velocity of gas molecule...

Will the r.m.s. velocity of gas molecules of different gases at the same temperature be the same?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

We know that C=`sqrt(3RT/M)`
So.the same absolute temperature T,we have C`prop 1/sqrtM` This means that the rms velocity will not be the same for different gases, gases with higher molecular weight will have less molecular rms velocity.
