Proliferative phase The menstrual phase is followed by the proliferative phase or follicular phase. In this phase, a primary follicle in the ovary grows mature forming Graafian follicle. Simultaneously, the endometrium of the uterus regenerates through proliferation. These changes in the ovary and uterus are induced by changes in the level of pituitary gonadotropins, i.e. LH, FSH and oestrogen. During this phase, a rising level of FSH stimulates the growth of the ovarian follicle and secretion of oestrogen.. When the blood level of oestrogen rises to a peak near the middle of the cycle, it gives positive feedback and stimulates more LH secretion. The LH stimulates ovulation. It occurs usually on the 14th day or midway during the menstrual cycle which is called as the ovulatory phase,
