Does an electric charge moving in the direction of magnetic field experience a force ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

We know that force experienced by charged particle moving in a uniform magnetic field is
`F = q v B sin theta `
When charge moves parallel to magnetic field then `theta = 0^(@).`
So, `F = q v B sin 0^(@) = 0`

Lorentz Force: If a charge +q is moving in an electric field E, it experiences a force qE called Lorentz electric force. If the charge q is moving in a magnetic field vecB , it experiences a force (vecvxxvecB) called Lorentz magnetic force.
