What is meant by "diagonal relationship" in the periodic table ? What is it cause ?

Diagonal Relationship : Diagonal relationship is the resemblance in properties of the first three elements of second period with the three elements of third period placed diagonally in the periodic table. Lithium resembles magnesium, beryllium resembles aluminium and boron resembles silicon.
Cause of diagonal relationship : It is because of similar electropositive character, and ionisation enthalpies of the diagonal elements.
