what happen when a piece of zinc is added to copper sulphate solution?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When a strip of zinc is dipped in the solution of copper sulphate the blue colour of the copper sulphate disappears and a powdery red mass of copper is deposited at the bottom of the beaker. This happens because zinc being more reactive than copper replaces copper from its salt solution.
Equation : `underset("(Blue)")("Copper sulphate") + Zinc to underset("(Colourless)")("Zinc sulphate") + underset("(Red)")("Copper")`
