`PH_3` has lower boiling point than `NH_3`. Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Electronegative value of N is greater than P. Therefore, N can easily form bond with hydrogen. Whereas, P cannot form hydrogen bonding with hydrogen. Hence, due to the presence of strong force of hydrogen bonding, `NH_3` has higher boilling point than `PH_3`.
