Why is the vapour pressure of liquid constant at a constant temperature ?

Vapour pressure is the pressure of the vapour at equilibrium state when the rate of evaporation becomes equal to the rate of condensation. The equilibrium constant does not change at a particular temperature and therefore the vapour pressure remains constant.
