Why does `NaCl` give a white precipitate with `AgNO_(3)` solution but `C Cl_(4)` does not ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

NaCl is an ionic compound and hence gives `1 Cl^(-)` ions in the solution which combine with `Ag^(+)` ions gives by
` AgNO_(3)` to form a white precipitete of AgCl but ` Ccl_(4)` is a covalent compound and does not give `Cl^(-)` ions .
