The radius of the circle passing through...

The radius of the circle passing through the foci of `(x^(2))/(16) + (y^(2))/(9) =1`, and having centre (0, 3) is

A

4

B

`(3)/(7)`

C

`sqrt(12)`

D

`(7)/(2)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

Given, `(x^(2))/(16)+(y^(2))/(9)=1`
`:." "e=sqrt(1-(9)/(16))=(sqrt(7))/(4)`
`:.` Coordinates of foci are `(+-sqrt(7),0)`.
Since, centre of circle is (0, 3) and passing through foci `(+-sqrt(7),0)`.
`:.` Radius of dircle
`=sqrt((0+-sqrt(7))^(2)+(3-0)^(2))=sqrt(7+9)=4`
