The specific heat capacities of hydrogen...

The specific heat capacities of hydrogen at constant volume and at constant pressure are `2.4 cal g^(-1) ^@C ^(-1) and 3.4 cal g^(-1)^@C` respectively. The molecular weight of hydrogen is `2g mol^(-1)` and the gas constant `R= 8.3 xx 10^(7)erg^@C mol^(-1)` . Calculate the value of `J`.

Text Solution

`C_v(H_2)=2.4 cal//g^@C`,
`C_p(H_2) =3.4 cal.//g^@C`
`M=2g//Mol.`
`R=8.3xx10(7) erg//mol^@C`
We know, `C_p-C_v= 1cal//g^@C`
So, difference of malar specific heat,
`implies C_p xx M-C_v xxM =1cal//g^@C`
Now, `2xxJ=R`
`implies 2xxJ=8.3 xx10^(7) erg//mol^@C`
`implies J=4.15 xx 10^^(7) erg//cal.`
