What inspired Bartlett for carrying out reaction between Xe and `PtF_(6)` ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

1) At first Bartlett prepared a red compound `O_(2)^(+)+PtF_(6)^(-)`
2) As the first Ionisation Enthalpyof molecular oxygen is identical with that the Xe.
3) He made efforts to prepare same type of compound with Xe and was successful in preparing another red colour compound `Xe^(+)PtF_(6)^(-)` by mixing `PtF_(6)` and Xe.
