Which of the following is a violation of the Hund's rule?

A

B

C

D

Both (1) and (2)

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

Hund's rule states that if two or more orbitals with the same enegry are available, one electron goes in eachuntill all are half-full. The electrons in the half-filled orbitals all have the same value of their spin quantum number. In the second orbital diagram, the electrons arte paired before each degenerate orbital is half-full while in teh first orbital diagram, the unpaired electrons do not have the same value of their spin quantum number.
