A metal surface is exposed to solar radiations. Which of the following is true?

A

The emitted electrons have enegry less than a maximum value of enegry depending upon the frequency of the incident radiation.

B

The emitted electrons have energy less than a maximum value of enegry depending upon the intensity of the incident radiation.

C

The emitted electrons have zero enegry.

D

The emitted electrons have enegry equal to the enegry of photons of the incident light.

The correct Answer is:
A

According to Einstein's photoelectric effect equation,
`hv = hv_(0) +KE`
Maximum `KE = hv - hv_(0)`
Since `hv_(0)` is constant, the maximum `KE` is always less then a maximum value of energy `(hv)` depending upon the frequency of the incident radiation.
